Terms of use

BookPractice is a free study site. By using it you agree to the terms on this page; if you do not agree, please do not use the site.

The site is for study and practice. Nothing on it is medical, legal, financial or other professional advice.

Content and licences

Each openly licensed textbook on this site is used under the licence its publisher gave it. Problems and their published answers are taken from the book and laid out for practice. Problems with no published answer are left out, and figures may be re-encoded or recoloured for dark mode. Each book’s own page carries its full credit and a link to the original, which is free to read.

Our version of each book is offered under that same book’s licence. You may reuse it on those terms: credit the original as its page here does, and follow the licence’s conditions, including non-commercial use and share-alike where they apply. OpenStax also asks that its books not be used to train large language models, or be ingested into generative AI products, without its permission.

OpenStax illustrations: Copyright Rice University, OpenStax, under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. Photographs keep the credit their book gives them, shown with each one, and may carry their owners’ terms.

No affiliation; trademarks

BookPractice is independent. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by OpenStax, Rice University, or any author or publisher whose book appears here. OpenStax is a trademark of Rice University, and OpenIntro of its owner; they and all other names are used only to credit the books and belong to their owners.

Disclaimer

The site is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. Answers come from the books and may contain errors; check anything that matters against your course materials. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from use of the site.

Privacy

You can use the site without an account. Your progress and display settings are then kept only in your browser and are not sent to us.

If you create an account, we keep what it needs to work: your email address; your sign-in details (a password is never stored in readable form) or, if you sign in with Google, the name, email address and picture Google shares; the name and picture you set on your profile; your progress on each problem, any run you are part-way through, and the exams you have finished (the last fifty); and any invite-only books you have been given. It is stored with Supabase and used only to run your account and carry your progress between devices.

Signing in sets cookies that keep you signed in. They are needed for your account to work and are not used to track you.

Choosing a language sets a cookie that remembers it; it is used only to show you the site in that language.

Supabase sends the emails an account needs: confirming a new account and resetting a password.

You can delete your account from your profile page. That removes it along with its progress, saved run, past exams, name, picture, book access, and any messages sent from its email address.

If you use the contact form, we keep what you send: the message, the book, chapter or problem it is about, the date and time, and your name and email address if you choose to give them. It is stored with Supabase and used only to read and answer the message. Write to us to have it deleted.

The site is hosted by Vercel. We use Vercel’s analytics to count page views and measure loading speed; it sets no cookies and does not identify you. Like any host, Vercel processes IP addresses to deliver pages. There is no advertising, and no data is sold or shared for advertising.
